Network Support

This weekend I went ahead and added multiplayer. Because, that's why.

It's pretty basic. One person opens up the game and clicks Start Server, another types in the server IP and hits connect. Configure ports if you must. Choose between Red or Yellow and start driving!

Server player can hit LeftCtrl to spawn in some Grannies.

1.0.0.35

Game Pad support!

You can now play Granny Bash with an Xbox or PS3 controller on your PC. No config required, just connect your controller, load the game and play!

Controls will be updated in the How To Play page.

Also updated how the game reads entities and places them in game. There was an issue with items placed far from the spawn point where they'd be in the next tile across, causing them to be stuck in walls.

Updated placement of gates to make them HOPEFULLY stick on the walls less.

Press NumPad 5 to fill up the fuel gauge - debug purposes only.

1.0.0.34

No new levels in this update, but there is now a limit on fuel. This makes it harder to pass levels as you'll now have to manage how much fuel you use.

Will soon be adding a way to replenish the fuel, so keep an eye out for it in the next few days!

1.0.0.33

Level 6 is a work in progress, but available in the latest release.

One of my favourite fixes in this one is the car's physics. It doesn't bounce around like a spastic when you hit a wall at moderate speeds. This also seems to have affected barrel collisions, making them no longer lock the direction of the car at the collision angle. Winning all round!

As shown in the screenshot, we now have fences! They are buggy as hell but will be improved on in the future.

1.0.0.32

Yet another new level and possibly bugs. Gotta catch them all!

Download the latest release and let us know what needs to be included next.

1.0.0.29

New Level
  • Barrels
  • Crazy Grannies
  • 4 Levels plus Endless Mode
There's a lot more development in the pipeline, so watch this space!

1.0.0.28

Endless Mode

There will be a whole bunch of levels being added into the game from now on. At the end of all completed levels will be an Endless Mode which includes 200 grannies respawning until you get bored.

Also, we are now on Steam! Check it out HERE

1.0.0.26

Levels!

There's now a few levels to play through. Just don't try and manually select them from the Options menu or you'll crash the game *sadface*. (Not sure if level 3 works yet)

Each update brings a little bit of gameplay, and a lot more of under the hood stuff that makes content development a whole lot easier/faster.

Ads!

I removed those pesky AdFly links. They were not worth anyones time to bother with, so they have been permanently fired. From a cannon. Into the sun.

1.0.0.21-ish?

So the new hosting is working well so far. There's been a ton of stuff going on so I'm not even sure which version has been uploaded for consuming.

You will be start to see signs of change in this version :D

I hope your pants are happy, because mine are!

Bandwidth Expanded

Fear not fellow Bashers, the hosting has been repaired and a new version is released!

There should be no interruptions to existing users when getting the update.

- TerraCo

Bandwidth Exceeded

Well, this is embarrassing...

It seems we have gone over our bandwidth for the file hosting for Granny Bash. Until this is sorted, you can download the latest version of the game from HERE

Hopefully this is sorted soon and we won't have to deal with this again!

You can now go into the Options screen and choose a level to play. Unfortunately there are only 2 to choose from at the moment, and they are pretty barren, but if anyone wants to contribute some level designs then I'll gladly put them in!

Car turns from closer to the rear wheels
Options menu contains real options!

Double update Tuesday!

Could it be? Two major updates in one day?! It's true!

Feast not only your eye balls, but also your ear holes on this update. That's right... SOUNDS!
They all said I was crazy, they all said I couldn't do it. But here it is!

Granny Bash has entered the realm of AUDIO

Check the downloads tab for the latest release, or run the installed game from your desktop to get it to check for updates.

26/2/13

MENU!
There's a menu system in place now that handles launching of the game, and will handle many more things!

These things include:
Loading game assets as they are needed
Loading and transitioning between screens
Support for changing levels and adding new ones

The game has also changed to an installer/auto-updater model, rather than a few files with an exe. We can all appreciate how much easier this will be for players to get the latest update!

Note: I have only tested this on 2 PC's, one of which had the prerequisites installed already. If you find issues, send me info/screenshots to grannybash@outlook.com and I'll have a peek.

18/2/13 Update

I said it was going to take me all weekend, and here it is!

Fixed the cars movement to a point that I am happy with. Also gave the Grannies a little spin to make them look more random.

Next update:
Granny movement
Levels
Menu

Further down the track:
More mad paint skillz!

Enjoy, share and donate if you think this is going anywhere!

Email me at grannybash@outlook.com for suggestions, tips or abuse!

Shout out to Hobbsy for planting this oak tree sized seed in my head when I was a naïve kid in high school. Would not have thought any of this (game dev) would be possible without his guidance in my early years.

In Progress

So as it turns out, the physics involved in making a car move semi-realistically are pretty complex! I've been reading up on a few different methods of integrating forces and applying them to the car but it seems to be cocked up somewhere in the maths.

This may be more of a weekend task. Updates to come!

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Minor Update

Latest Version:

Fixes:
Collision detection to properly interact between the car and grannies.
In progress:
Car physics. Working on making it move in a believable way. This is why it is all over the shop at the moment. Will hopefully be rectified tonight.

Next Steps:
Adding more functionality into the engine (granny behaviour, better reaction to being hit, spawn points/timers)
Proper level setup. Either properly setting up the random placement with roads or static levels.

Please donate to help push this thing along!

Hello World

Hey,

This is the first post on the new Granny Bash development blog!

We'll document the progress on the future indie smash hit that the world has been waiting years to see.

Follow us through all the laughs, blood, sweat and tears that will pour into making a game for everyone to love and enjoy.

About the game:
You are here to help and can directly influence the path that a person or town takes in development.
Someone is always out to stop you, and that's where the Grannies come in!
This is the game that I always wanted to play. It's about starting with something small and building it into something big. Then handing it on to others to take control and watching it blossom from a distance.
The games I want to play make you feel like you are important.
Granny Bash contains elements from many genre's, including but not limited to:
  • City Simulators
  • Zombie survival
  • Tower Defence
  • RPG
Hopefully we can put something tangible online that the public can download and sink their teeth into.
